The Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund of the research university sampled in this study provided the funds for the Questions for Biology project. Additional funds were provided by Skylight, through the university's Science Centre for Learning and Teaching. We specifically thank the undergraduate students who took part in the think-aloud interviews, pilot assessment, and in-class pre- and posttest deployments of the finalized BEDCI, as well as the instructors who incorporated the inventory into their classes. We also thank the instructors and graduate students who served as experts in validating BEDCI questions. We thank Abdel Azim Zumrawi of our Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology for his help with the statistical aspects of this paper. Finally, we acknowledge the two anonymous reviewers for providing insightful feedback that improved the manuscript.
